Truly Terrific TruColor!

DSC_3737F--WEB.jpg

Just last month ISAC starting carrying a new product. A pretty spectacular product actually- TruColor Natural Food Color! These food colors come in gel paste powder, paint powder and airbrush powder, and airbrush shine powder. They are also made from natural materials such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, roots, and minerals. It gets better! Trucolor Natural Food Color is free of synthetic dyes, artificial preservatives, eggs, milk, fish and shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, soy and wheat. Oh, and it’s gluten and GMO free too! That is pretty impressive! I’m sure you are all dying to hear more… and maybe win a little something. :)

Let’s start with ease of use. All of the TruColor products come in powder form. To activate the colors, you just start with a 1:1 ratio of powder and water (for example: 1 tsp of powder to 1 tsp of water), and then mix until the powder has completely dissolved into the water. This ratio is a starting point; by adding more or less water you can change the intensity of the color and the thickness of the paste. This is a premium food color gel paste; the colors will not bleed! So, if a bride wants navy blue piping on a white cake, you are in luck. TruColor gel paste powder will not bleed all over the white cake. Yay! It can be used to color buttercream, fondant, gumpaste, royal icing, and even dough (holiday cookie game changer!!). There are 20 different TruColor gel paste powder colors. You have 17 paint and airbrush colors and 25 airbrush shine colors to choose from!  The paint and airbrush colors are just as easy to use; all you need to do is add water (2:1 ratio). Again, use less water for a darker shade or more water for a lighter shade of your color. The airbrush shine powder is not a luster dust- it too must be activated with water. The paint and airbrush colors and the airbrush sheen colors can be painted directly on your product with a paintbrush or by using an airbrush. This versatility is pretty great- you don’t need to buy two products in the same color, one will do!

The brilliance of  color that TruColor delivers with its products is amazing! Chef Nicholas, and the entire ISAC family, was very impressed with the bold and beautiful natural colors. Chef Nicholas was especially pleased with their purple (a notorious color in the cake decorating world), both the vibrancy and shade of the color, but also it’s resistance to fading! No one wants faded colors, no sir. TruColor has all the tricky colors covered- purple, red (and super red), and super black. I mentioned earlier that these colors will not bleed, in more good news they are also very stable and resistant to UV light, and will not fade! Only 10 grams of the gel paste powder will color 25 pounds of icing! Holy moly!

So, to recap, these food colors are made from natural materials like blueberries, carrots, grape skin, paprika, purple sweet potato, and other real things you have heard of- not crazy chemicals! The colors are vibrant and brilliant, but will not bleed or fade. You can color your buttercream, royal icing, gumpaste and fondant, AND you can paint and airbrush with them. The colors are intense, so a small amount will last you a long time… or make a huge batch of whatever you are coloring. They are powdered, and that equals a very long shelf life- in fact TruColor guarantees their colors for a period of one year! Oh, and guess what the TruColor family of colors is also certified Kosher and Halal! I mean really, can you even think of a reason NOT to try these amazing colors?! I certainly cannot. In fact, I’m dying to try them, and I’m a bit embarrassed I haven’t yet. Yes, I think I should try them this weekend!

I’d love to know what you think of these exciting new colors from TruColor! Leave a comment below about what excites you most about the products and I’ll select three winners- one will receive a gel paste powder, one a paint and airbrush powder, and one an airbrush shine powder (I’ll even let the winners pick the colors!) Winners will be announced in a special blog on Monday. Please leave your comment by Sunday July 12 for a chance to win.

Sweetly yours,

Stephanie

  1. I am VERY excited about being able to color the cookie dough. My daughter-in-law, granddaughter and I love to make cookies for Christmas, and with this new dough coloring option and the delicious Renshaw fondant we can have all kinds of fun this year!

  2. I am so excited about this! As a decorator that works alone the ability to do accents and finish work in advance rather that at the venue (for the fear of the strong colors fading/bleeding) this product will be a life-saver!

  3. Wow wow wow! This is exactly what I’ve been dreaming of! I can’t wait to try the red and purple. I make hand crafted cookies and hand crafted sugar flowers and use a lot of red. I find that while I love the Americolor Super Red, because it doesn’t turn green or something funky, it may still keep coloring and I wake up with a much too deep red. Another problem with MANY of the colors, no matter how good they color, is the fact that if you need a deep rich color they will invariable leave a horrible taste to the buttercream and the royal. And lastly, if this color doesn’t bleed then I will really be in heaven, because, in doing my handcrafted cookies, it can be rather cumbersome in doing colors that are next to each other in a way that they don’t bleed together. I am a huge fan of Nick’s and trust his judgment so I am ready to try this as soon as possible! And once again I can’t thank you enough for this most welcome newsletter that is always packed full with knowledge and advice.

  4. The brilliance of the colors, the versatility and especially the resistance to fading make this a win/win option!

  7. The color palette available is exciting. Will not bleed on the background color? More exciting. A powder? Really wonderful.
10 grams of the gel paste powder will color 25 pounds of icing? … now that is something to really be excited about :)

  8. The ability to have good, true colour is something ‘everyone’ has been waiting for. Your new products will change everything for the better. I am excited to give them a try. Thank YOU !!!!!

  9. I love that I can feel good about putting these colors into my desserts. And I REALLY love the way you can store them dry and activate with water at any time. I can’t wait to try TruColor!

  10. What got me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside after reading this post had to be the fact that they don’t fade! You wouldn’t believe how many times I have made a gorgeous fondant cake in a deep, dark, oh-so-intense Royal Purple only to have it fade within a matter of hours once coming in contact with the sunlight and air. Talk about wanting to crawl into a hole! This would be such a blessing to have because I would be able to sleep sound in knowing that the cake that I make today will not look like something completely different tomorrow. I am sure ALL of us Bakers/Decorators can relate. We want our work to remain as such and it looks like we may have something on the market that can hold up to that. I’m super excited to try these out. Thanks for the post! :)
