On the Road with Chef Nicholas

Wednesday, 13 November 2019

Hello everyone!  If you were at the Ultimate Sugar Show in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend, I hope you had a great time!  I sure did!!  I had the opportunity to be at the ISAC vendor booth the whole weekend and talk with a bunch of other sugar lovers.  It was great fun and lots of hard work, but mostly lots of fun!!

The weekend was full of classes, vendors and sugar competitions, as well as, making new friends and seeing friends of old.  Chef Nicholas was the head judge during the show, and he had so much to review.

The Sugar Art competition had a specific theme to follow called Sounds of the South.  The talented sugar artists created some amazing displays with Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, ZZ Top, Dolly Parton and even some designs using specific songs, like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.  Some even had lights and moving turntables as part of the design.  They were so cool!

The other competitions were the Southern Lady Hat Fashion Show and the Great Southern Bake Off.  The final competition was the USA Qualifying Rounds for the 2021 FIPGC Cake Designers World Championship.  So much to do in one weekend…. Whew…. I’m exhausted.  I hope you had a chance to see everything.  Here are some photographs of the weekend events.

The Best of Show went to Deepa Gaikwad- Karande for her incredibly life-like Ray Charles display.  She won a fabulous Kitchen Aid professional stand mixer, the best mixer on the market!

There were even some special guests at the show.  You never know who you might run in to.

The show ended on Sunday and Chef Nicholas was on the road to Ontario, Canada to attend Cake Carnival 2019.  This event is put on by Icing Inspirations and the cake competition supports a great charity, Icing Smiles Canada.

Chef will return to Atlanta on Friday, just in time for the ISAC Grand Holiday Open House.  Have you registered yet?  There are only a few days left so don’t delay.  Register here.

Select from one of the following days and times.  Each session is the same, so pick the one that works for you.

Saturday, Nov 16 from 9:00am – 12:30pm

Saturday, Nov 16 from 12:00pm – 3:30pm

Sunday, Nov 17 from 9:00am – 12:30pm

There is a $15.00 fee at the time of registration, but you get a $5.00 credit that you can apply towards your purchase during the Open House.  There is so much to see and do during these sessions!  We have 3 different guest instructors and Chef Nicholas will be doing his own demo on all things sweet.  There will be a lot of holiday ideas to show you so you can get your own holiday celebrations started.

On Monday, November 18, Chef will be in Asheville, North Carolina to be the head judge at the Annual Gingerbread competition at Grove Park Inn.  This is a regular event for Chef, and I have heard that the competition gets better and better every year.  I should have more to share about this in next week’s blog.

The holidays are right around the corner, so I hope these events will get you in the holiday spirit!

Stay Sweet and Keep Learning!
