Meanwhile, in Studio B…

Fantastic Fall in Studio B

The ISAC team is gearing up for a very busy fall and winter season. We have quite a few Studio B classes, our Grand Holiday Open House, and Chef Nicholas is splitting his time between his classes here in Atlanta, and the classes that he instructs at the French Pastry School in Chicago (not to mention judging the National Gingerbread Competition).

We kick off fall in Studio B with the perfect fall class: Autumn Apple Harvest with Chef Gretchen! In this class students will use caramel and chocolate to decorate four different apples! I don’t know about you, but this girl LOVES caramel apples! The little tuxedo apple in the below photo may or may not have ended up in my belly (mmmm). These tasty and beautiful treats make wonderful gifts for family, friends, teachers, or would be great to sell at the many upcoming fall festivals. Chef Gretchen is offering two dates for this class: September 27 and October 2. This class is going to be as fun as it is delicious and instructional!

October brings Julia Cullen into Studio B to teach her incredibly elegant Winter Nirvana Cake. Julia is a certified Master Sugar Artist, and an ISAC alum. Students will learn many rarely taught techniques, template design, and the history of run-sugar cake decorating. Even though I see this cake each day I go into work, it always catches my eye. I think my favorite element is the delicate lattice work on the sides of the cake. Like so many of the classes we offer, the techniques in this class can be applied and adapted to so many different cakes and projects. It’s so important to look beyond the cake you create in a particular class to all the original and beautiful cakes that you will be able to design with tools learned in our classes.

After Julia’s class, things calm down in Studio B until November. After our Grand Holiday Open house (more on that later), our special guest instructor, Autumn Carpenter, will be teaching two one-day cookie classes on November 10 and November 11 (the same class will be offered each day)! This class is going to be out of control. First, you are going to learn the basics of baking cookies and cookies on a stick. Then your mind will be blown learning every possible cookie decorating technique: run sugar, outlining, painting, marbling, patterns, edible images, rolled fondant, brush embroidery, embossing! Students will create at least 12 cookies AND a small cookie bouquet! How can you pass up this class? Plus, it will pretty much guarantee that you have the best holiday cookies at this year’s office cookie exchange!

Studio B will end it’s 2014 year with Chef Gretchen’s The Art of Cupcake: Winter Edition on December 4. Spend an evening with us decorating whimsical winter-themed cupcakes- who doesn’t love polar bear or penguin cupcakes?! Though, I am most excited to learn how the 3-D standing Christmas Tree is created! These would be perfect to make for holiday dinner parties, school parties, or as sweet holiday gifts! This is the perfect class to take with your friends, unwinding after work. Not to mention it’s going to be a great escape from all the holiday drama!

Grand Holiday Open House

I am sure that a great many of our blog readers have attended one or more of our Open House events. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of attending, I have a message for you: STOP DEPRIVING YOURSELF! Demos are offered by Chef Nicholas, Scott, and guest instructors (this year will be Autumn Carpenter, as noted above). I went to my first Holiday Open House in 2008 and I was blown away by the amount of things I learned, and the amazing quality of the demonstrations offered. I was hooked on ISAC (as an aside at the 2009 Open House I filled out a job application and the rest is history!). There will be five sessions split over two days; each of the five sessions will offer the exact same demonstrations. Saturday, November 8 will have three sessions: 11:00am-2:30pm, 12:45pm-4:15pm, and 2:30pm-6:00pm. Sunday, November 9 will have two sessions: 11:00am-2:30pm and 12:45pm-4:15pm. Our Grand Holiday Open house books up VERY VERY quickly; if you are interested in attending one of the sessions, I highly encourage you to call as soon as possible. Also, I love meeting all of you, and I want to see all of your happy, smiling faces at this Open House!
