Katy Sue, We Love You!

Katy Sue, We Love You!

Um... who loves NEW PRODUCTS? And who loves FREE GIVEAWAYS??? You do?! Well, good news, because this is the blog for you! Chef Nicholas has been trying out some brand spanking new Katy Sue Cake Design molds- the Creative Cake System designed by Ceri Griffiths. There are four sets, and they are designed to use rolled fondant, gumpaste, marzipan, chocolate, candy, boiled sugar, cold porcelain and salt dough to replicate royal icing piping decorating elements.

Oh, and we are giving one lucky reader ALL FOUR SETS! Do you want to be the winner?

Let me tell you about the four different Creative Cake System molds! There is a small ruffle set and a medium ruffle set, and both create perfect ruffle borders. The small ruffle set is 200mm x 19mm x 6mm, and the finished ruffle is about 3/4 inch in depth (including the scalloped band). The medium ruffle 200mm x 26mm x 8mm, and the finished ruffle is about 1 inch in depth (again with the scalloped band). These two sizes would be perfect cakes for baby showers, bridal showers, and princess or ballerina parties! And definitely easier on your wrists- NO PIPING!

If ruffles aren't your style when it comes to borders, then you will LOVE the serrated rope border!! This mold offers three sizes of the border, perfect for tiered cakes! Oh, and it looks just like actual rope, so this could also be used for fun nautical cake (as a rigging or anchor rope), or as a lasso on a rodeo cake!

Finally, the butterfly trio mold! As its name suggests, this mold comes with three sets of delicate butterfly wings, and a butterfly body. The level of detail is incredible, and the mold can be folded to enable the back side of each wing to be detailed along with the front! When the wings are painted and dusted, they create a big impact on any cake or cupcake!

So... who wants all FOUR of these BRAND NEW mold sets?! That means the small ruffles, the medium ruffles, the serrated rope border, and the butterfly trio! Just comment below telling me which of these molds you think you would use the most. Each of these are incredibly useful, and I know the winner is going to use them all the time! Oh, and we have a whole line of other Katy Sue Designs molds available for purchase on our website!

25th Anniversary: Lunch is Ready 2

We have some big news to share with you all! Many of you have taken classes with us, and while Chef Nicholas is the best instructor ever, all of our students look forward to Scott's delicious homemade lunch and cookie time. Scott began preparing lunch for students in 1995, and after years and years and years of recipe requests, it was high time to create a cookbook! At the 2009 ISAC Grand Holiday Open House, Scott's cookbook, Lunch is Ready, was released!

This year, in honor of ISAC's 25th anniversary, Scott has selected the top 100 favorite recipes in a new cookbook: Lunch is Ready 2. This book will debut at our Spring Open House this year (a week from this coming Saturday). As Scott was selecting and testing recipes for this cookbook, he made each recipe and we all got to sample the goods (so to speak). It was hard having to eat all those tasty desserts, but somehow we persevered! ;)

If you would like to reserve your copy of Lunch is Ready 2, you can email us at customersvc@nicholaslodge.com. We will set aside your copy to pick up at our Spring Open House. Don't forget to have Scott sign your copy!

Sneak peek at the brand new cover! Photo: S. Ewing/ISAC

Congratulations on the new cookbooks Scott! I can't wait to get my own copy AND have superstar Scott sign it! I imagine this will be the inscription, "To Stephanie, social media goddess and maybe the coolest person I know. Thanks for being so awesome all the time." -Scott

What do you guys think? Ha!

Sweetly yours,

Stephanie

I love the molds. I would use them all, the smallest I would use on decorated cookies and the other two would use on cakes for birthdays, baby showers and 3D dresses.

Scott, congratulations, hope those delicious lemon cookies are in the book.

Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw these molds - they are fabulous! I think I would use the ruffle ones the most. To be able to get the ruffled look without the work, what could be more awesome than that???

I love Katy Sue molds, but I would LOVE to have the ruffles!! I'm scared to do buttercream ruffles, but I would do fondant or modeling chocolate any day.

I just love me some Katy Sue molds. To tell you the truth Stephanie, the mold I would use the most will be the rope mold. The one that I use currently is very short, which means that I have to make multiple ropes to put together. With the Katy Sue one, I'll have to make less.

I can't pipe if my life depended on it! I don't know if its because I'm left handed or just because.
But those ruffle molds would get me past that buttercream piping ruffle thing.
I have a fondness for the Katy Sue molds - always something unique.

Definitely would use the rope mold-have been eyeing these since they come out and love all of this line! My hands are not as steady(need to lay off the coffee, maybe?) so piping is more difficult for me
