ISAC Blog is Back!!

Hello!  Have you been missing the weekly blog that used to come out from ISAC?  Me too!  Stephanie did a wonderful job keeping us up to date with everything going on with the team at ISAC and Chef Nicholas, but she has decided to move on to bigger things (taking care of her family!)  Thank you Stephanie for all that you have done!  Your blogs were full of information and lots of fun!!

So what’s next?  Well, I’m happy to announce that I have the privilege and honor of being the person that is going to continue what Stephanie was doing and deliver the weekly blog on behalf of ISAC!  My name is Susan and I would like to welcome you to a new series of blogs that will give you all the latest that is happening with Chef Nicholas and his entire team at ISAC.

First, I want to give you just a little about myself.   I have been a cake decorator and involved in the sugar arts for over 25 years.  I love to make sugar flowers, decorate, travel and mostly play with sugar!  I am a member of the International Cake Exploration Society and the Treasurer of the Florida Chapter.  I have met so many people and made life long friends in the sugar industry.  It’s hard to say what is more fun, playing with sugar or meeting new friends!

As I’m sure you all know, Chef Nicholas and his team at ISAC have been around for over 25 years and have consistently evolved with the industry to stay on the cutting edge of what the latest trends are in the sugar arts.  My job, that I take on with much pride and excitement, is to bring you the latest on all things ISAC and sugar!  I will do my best to keep you up to date on the all classes being offered, either in the studio or on the road; what is the latest tool that we love and that you just have to have; any new sweet tips and cake tips and the all important “where is Chef Nicolas” question.

For starters, the ISAC team has participated in a couple of wonderful cake shows over the last couple of months including the SoFlo Cake & Candy Expo in Miami Beach, Florida which was held in April; the annual convention for the International Cake Exploration Society in Little Rock, Arkansas last month and prior to that he attended and judged the competitions at the Show Me Sweets Edible Art Show & Convention in St. Charles, Missouri.  That’s a lot of traveling!

Let me start with SoFlo Cake & Candy Expo.  This is south Florida’s biggest and best cake and candy show.  It brings in so many people from all over the world.  Here are a few photographs from the weekend.

Chef Nicholas was a very busy person at this event.  He was the head of the team of judges responsible for the Cake competition.

He also provided a hands-on class at the Renshaw Academy…

AND he was doing special demos at his booth.

Whew…. That’s a lot of stuff over a 3-day period, but he was up to the task.  I know that everyone enjoys seeing Chef Nicholas and discussing the latest sugar trends with him.

Next stop, Little Rock, Arkansas in July to attend the International Cake Exploration Society annual convention.  This is a great show put together by many people who love the sugar arts.   Here are a few photographs of the weekend.

The next stop was the Show Me Sweets Edible Art Show & Convention in St. Charles, Missouri where Chef Nicholas was the head judge for the competitions.  These amazing sugar artists really went all out.

Here are photographs of some of the winners in the Food Realism Category.  In order, 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winners.

Well, that is all to report for now.  I hope that you will tell all your friends that the ISAC blog is back.  I will do my best to report on all the fun things that are going on at ISAC!

I also want you to know that I welcome your thoughts, comments, ideas, etc. (in nice constructive ways, of course  ?) as I want to know what you want to see and hear about on this blog so we can all learn together.

Until next time, stay sweet and keep learning!

Susan
